With Right Now
Spring has arrived but the weather is still in a transitional phase which means I’ve been happily reaching for my warmer coats lately. These cooler Canadian Spring temperatures call for an appearance by none other than the teddy coat to deliver me warmth and coziness this time of year. Truthfully? A late spring isn’t uncommon where I’m from and my approach is to try to make the most of it whenever I can.
As a style enthusiast navigating life through a pandemic, I’ve been embracing any and every opportunity to style daily looks that are actually appropriate to wear out in public. Let’s be real, pandemic life has had an impact on our social lives and the opportunity to pull myself together for an occasion/event seems to be few and far between these days.
So when a snowstorm randomly swept through the city this past week, I joyfully sprung open my closet to grant one of my beloved teddy coats a last hoorah at what was left of winter here in snowy Alberta. Obviously this Topshop Canada teddy coat was a leading contender and fit the bill for a little nature stroll with my fiancé.
My deep appreciation for the teddy coat began long before I stumbled upon this beauty on the Hudson’s Bay website and when I discovered that it was reversible, let’s just say that the Add to Cart button didn’t stand a chance! It was an impulse purchase that I justified, considering it fell on the more affordable spectrum of coats on the market right now and didn’t break the bank. If you’re anything like me, you love a good bargain and appreciate the perks of investing in a reversible outerwear piece because hello, 2 looks in 1 coat is pure brilliance if you ask me.
Trust me when I say that teddy coats are the comfiest outerwear piece you will own and the cozy vibes you’ll be channeling in one is next level. I love how it has the ability to instantly bring the simplest of outfits to life and can be styled in so many different ways. My favourite way to wear it is with faux leather trousers paired with a plain fitted sweater and combat boots for a more casual approach. No need to sweat the details because the teddy coat is a statement piece all on its own.
So there you have it, my loves — my last little attempt at Autumn/Winter dressing after nearly a full year of existing in loungewear sets, athleisure and chic PJ’s. Anyone else? *insert nervous laugh here* I’ve linked this exact Topshop coat and the longer variation of it in the carousel below just in case you’d like to take advantage of the end of season clearance sale like I did! And on that note, I’m off to conquer my routine seasonal swap as I say my temporary goodbyes to all of the winter coats that are on their way to storage totes for the season.
As I eagerly prepare my wardrobe for the warmer months ahead, I’ll admit that I’ve struggled to come to terms with the fact that my overflowing closet of teddy coats were bear-ly (lol) touched this past winter. I guess they’ll just have to wait for their time to thrive again next A/W season because Spring & Summer outfits are officially on the horizon!
Personally, I’m looking forward to longer days, denim skirts, espadrilles and flowy fabrics. Aren’t you?
